Ode to McQueen

Happy Friday everyone!  I’d like to pay homage to one of my favorite designers, Mr. Alexander McQueen.  That man was surely a genius.
Now get out there and enjoy your weekend!  Please 🙂

Dress: Alexander McQueen for Target

Seeing Red

I bought this dress off the clearance rack at Macy’s and couldn’t tell you the brand, but I love the daring crimson color and one shoulder.  I paired it with my favorite Frye “Adrienne” boots for a little oomph!

Lana Del Rey for H&M

Love her or hate her, Lana Del Rey is the newest face of H&M.  In this case, I love her!  She may still be perfecting her live performances, but for now her album plays non-stop on my iPod and she’s not bad to look at either.

My favorite Lana song.

Confession:  I’ve lived in California for most of my life and have NEVER been to Disneyland.  That is until my wonderful boyfriend Nick surprised me with a spontaneous trip there!  We had so much fun and it really saddened me when we had to leave.  It really is a magical place.  We’re definitely going back again!

Here are some photos of our impromptu excursion!

I had to break out my new favorite jeans!  Find them here.

SeaShell Cupcakes

This past weekend was my sister Linda’s baby shower for my new niece!  She had an Ocean/Underwater theme and at the last minute I had to make cupcakes because other plans did not fall through.

When it comes to baking, I’m no Iron Chef.  I’m a bit more Sandra Lee a la “semi-homemade cooking!”  (no shame in that at all :)) I used a vanilla flavored boxed cake mix and store bought vanilla frosting.  For the decorative elements, I dyed the frosting blue with food coloring, made pink candied seashells with a candy mold and pearlized sprinkles for the final touch!

With the exception of turning everyone’s mouth blue, I think they turned out pretty well!

…and VOILA!

Independence Day

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful 4th of July holiday.  I spent mine with my boyfriend Nick, family and friends.  For my outfit, I thought it was appropriate and very American to be in none other than a plain white t-shirt and denim shorts.

Top:  Forever 21
Denim Shorts: American Eagle
Belt: Anthropology
Crystal Necklace: purchased from Light in the Box
Shoes:  old pair from Bakers
Bag: Patricia Field

My favorite person: Nick

With my niece, Allee (who is growing up way too fast!)

Everyone got sparklers for the night 🙂
