This post is very much overdue, but as they say, “Better late than never!” My good friend Marissa lured me up to San Francisco some time last year because the De Young museum was housing an exhibition entirely on Jean Paul Gaultier. She knew all too well that this was right up my alley!
Brief history: Jean Paul Gaultier is a fashion designer (duh). I group him with, who I like to call, “The Fashion Rebels.” Right there with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Vivian Westwood, John Galliano…you get it? He is famously known for his conical bras, made extra special by Madonna via her Truth or Dare tour, and other celebrities such as Lady Gaga. Brilliant man.
We went to see the exhibit and it was one of the most extraordinary things I have ever experienced. Unfortunately, videotaping was not allowed, but I managed to get some semi-decent photos in the low lighting. The entire exhibit was amazing, but the most memorable part were the mannequins with image-projected faces. At one point, a group of mannequins started to sing together like a Catholic church choir. It was kind of creepy, but so cool.
Isn’t this knit dress fabulous!?
